Strength of Our Nation (Spring/Summer 2015) I was inspired by the strength of our Aboriginal culture, and in particular, the strength of our women. Our mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives have played pivotal roles in our past, and still play pivotal roles. Aboriginal women have traditionally been strong and noble, acting with integrity and courage. I want to honor the strength of our women, and every woman, in my upcoming collection. This collection reflects the power of Aboriginal women through the powerful structures of my designs, and the rich sophistication of Aboriginal women through the exotic and luxurious textures of my fabrics. This platform looks to unite sisters within our Nation, and sisters within every nation. This collection juxtaposes tradition with modernism, illustrating how far we have come in the world. We must use our strength now, to not just honor tradition but to expand tradition, to further what our past generations have done. I feel that by embracing our heritage, and showcasing our culture, we will be able to change negative attitudes surrounding our beautiful Aboriginal culture. This collection employs hand beading done by Native women and a Collaboration with Amazing artist Aaron Paquette using his art in the collection.
